The Miami Yacht Club
The skies cleared after a very rainy day to make for a nice evening “social” meeting as we closed out the month of May. Diane Landsberg had the Yacht Club room nicely decorated with bottle lights and table decorations. The Yacht Club served hot appetizers, and Diane supplied the cold nibbles & shrimp.
After allowing plenty of time for all to arrive, President Phil Seipp welcomed everyone to this special event, a Glenmorangie Scotch tasting. In addition to a good showing of our members, we were pleased to have our District Governor Alan Cohn with us along with DGE Ray Williams and PDG Joe Roth. President Phil led us in a moment of silence for Leonard Pardon who passed away suddenly while on holiday to England. A talented artist, he will be missed, and our thoughts & prayers go out to his wife, Shirley Pardon.
Taking care of a bit of business, Maria Rudel was presented with her blue membership badge for all the work she has done this past year. President Elect Dave Skinner was presented with his stipend check to attend the Toronto R.I. Convention in a few weeks. Announcements were also made concerning the upcoming 6/14 Installation Dinner and the 4th of July event. You do not want to miss these wonderful Miami Rotary events!
After giving special thanks to Past President Dave Anderson for arranging the event, President Phil introduced Matt Lofgren, a Glenmorangie Business Development Officer who in turn introduced our speaker David Blackmore, the Master Brand Ambassador for Glenmorangie. With an excellent Powerpoint presentation, David educated us all on the history and ingredients of scotch distillation and took the mysteries out of “single malt scotch”. He then led us all through a tasting of Glenmorangie “Original” and 4 of their premium varieties. Rarely do we see this much enthusiasm for a program. Our most sincere thanks go out Glenmorangie & the Moet Hennessey Group.
As usual, there were a few door prizes, and the evening continued on with good music tracks supplied by Norby Rudel. Some members enjoyed a post-scotch cigar and convivial fellowship on the Yacht Club patio. These evening events also allow us to see a few members like Rick Miller and Andrew Sommerlatte who are unable to attend many lunch meetings. Those of you who couldn’t come missed another wonderful Miami Rotary event!
