The Rote – December 15, 2020
Holiday Happy Hour Meeting via ZOOM
President Robert Bull welcomed everyone to our December 15th Holiday Happy Hour Celebration. We had forty people attending our Happy Hour, including District Governor Peter Verbeek and Assistant District Governor John Fulton.
Today is National Cupcake Day and Robert showed us the dozen miniature cupcakes that he bought at Publix. All Club Members who live in the Greater Miami Dade area received at their home a
Bauducco Panettone and a Christmas beverage.

We then talked about the origins of some of the Christmas traditions in different locations. Many did not know that the name, Santa Claus, is actually a mispronunciation for Dutch of Saint Nicolas (Sinterklass).

There are so many different traditions. We also talked about the origins of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Shirley Pardon informed us that in England Boxing Day, December 26, is a National Holiday and told us several English jokes related to the season.
We then played Rotary Holiday Bingo. The winning Bingo had to form a shape of a diamond on the Bingo Card.

It took a while to get the winner, and we had five simultaneous winners:
Frank Voytek, Marcia Brod, Maria Rudel and
Susie Shelley. The winning prize was a Christmas box of
Swiss Lindt chocolates, so we bought a few more for all the winners.

We followed up with Happy Dollars and there was a lot of happiness in our ZOOM meeting. Everyone was happy about how we have had so many fun ZOOM meetings and offered warm wishes to all. Happy Dollars were given by Bunny Uriarte, Diane Landsberg, Robin Shelley, Cathy Cahill, Norby Rudel, Randy Lichtman, Stephanie Bull, Noreen Timoney, Carlos Bonadies, Linda Singer, Ron Felton, Diane Stieber, Angela Deggs, Norys Figuera, David McManus and Jay Almeida.
President Robert Bull ended the meeting wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting of 2021 on Thursday, January 6, 2021.
