President Brian Tschirhart opened the meeting and acknowledged National Women’s Day with some inspirational words. Cathy Cahill led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

March Birthday Wishes go out to:

Members: Oliver Ruiz March 8; Marianela Solis March 13; Marcia Brod and David McManus – March 20; and Brian Tschirhart – March 30.

Member Spouses are also celebrating in March: Maria Van Orsdel March 13; and Lucienne Decker – March 31.

Congrats on getting another year older everyone!!!!

  • Congratulations to our resident historian Norman Kassoff. He has been honored at his former place of business – the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office – with the dedication of the break room in his name. Scribe’s Note: The question arises – how much time did he spend in the break room and not at his desk….lol?

  • Norby and Maria Rudel, Marcia Brod and Diane Landsberg had a working dinner with former member Bunny Uriarte and two of her co-workers. Their company is interested in partnering with the club in an effort to establish a lasting way for Kemper to participate in our community.

Norby Rudel reported on attending the President-Elect Training Seminar this past weekend in Orlando. It was inspiring to hear form RI President Elect Gordon R. McInally and meet and network with the many incoming presidents in our District and Zone.

  • Saturdays March 11 and 18 – TBM Interviews at the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office. If you haven’t signed up already – don’t miss out on this important part of the Club’s TBM Scholarship program. Reach out to Phil or Diane immediately.

  • Thursday, March 16 – We will celebrate our 106th Anniversary with a special luncheon at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant promptly noon. Arrive early! The event is sold out but there is a waiting list. Contact Oliver Ruiz, Noreen Timoney or Robin Shelley if you wish to come.

  • Saturday, April 1 – There will be a brunch for everyone to check in with our own Sailor Steve Dutton. He will be in port on that day and we are getting together.

  • Saturday, July 1 – Save the Date on your calendar – Installation Dinner for our incoming President Norby Rudel.

Today’s Program – A Tribute to International Women’s Day and our Rotary Club Women Leaders.

The first woman inducted into the Rotary Club of Miami was in 1987, Ann Wagner, an employee at the Bone and Tissue Bank, broke the barrier and was welcomed into the club. There was some controversy however, several male members walked out at her induction never to return. Boy, did they miss out on a lot of great stuff!!!

The Club has had six women Club Presidents in its 106 years:

Ruth Kassewitz – 1993-94; Marcy Ullom – 1999-00; Ann (de las Pozas) Stith 2010-11; Linda Singer 2011-12; Diane Landsberg – 2014-15; and Noreen Timoney – 2021-22.

Quite the lineup of outstanding women. We will always appreciate their contributions to the Rotary Club of Miami.

Happy $$$$$$$$ will be contributed to our Little Haiti Girl Scout Troop in honor of International Women’s Day.

  • Brian Tschirhart honored the many women in his life and also was proud to share that his oldest granddaughter will be attending Texas A&M University, and will be in the Corps of Cadets with hopes to eventually be a pilot!

  • Linda Singer enjoyed attending the Army Field Military Band concert at the South Dade (now Moss) Cultural Center. It is a great free concert – so watch for it next year!

  • Dave Skinner remembered his father today – this would have been his 100th Birthday. He is missed!

  • Robin Shelly contributed money in memory of our first Rotary Club of Miami Woman President, Ruth Kassewitz - the same day Robin joined the club! (Who also became president 1996-’97)

  • Marcia Brod shared that her daughter, Stephanie, will be the next president of the Downtown Gainesville Rotary Club. Proud to have a future leader in the family!

  • Noreen Timoney was proud of the role women have played in Rotary and around the world;

  • Diane Stieber was thrilled over her 4 daughters and 3 granddaughters – all amazing women;

  • Norby Rudel is looking forward to the move of the Club’s lunch meetings to our new downtown location – 50 Biscayne. Our 10th Floor, free parking venue will be a great location to expand our membership. We will all check it out at an evening social on April 13;

  • Diane Landsberg is thankful for her 1 daughter, 2 granddaughters and 2 great granddaughters;

  • Cameron Sisser was happy to be connected to the Rotaract Club at MDC – they will be volunteering at the upcoming Art Walk at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL LADIES IN OUR LIVES!!!! THE WORLD WOULD NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU!!

Noreen Timoney led everyone in the 4-Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
