Shirley Pardon gave an invocation. Amelia Bonilla led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Christina Richter, a fellow Rotarian joins us from Unna/Westfalen, Germany. She is a former exchange student and studied in Linden, Indiana. She came back to the states for her 30th class reunion and made a stop to vacation in Miami before travelling back to Germany. Her family has a meat processing business in Germany.

President Dave Skinner is running a Zoom meeting Monday night at 7pm. Invitations will be sent to all members;
There is a “Rotary Means Business” event in Hollywood, FL on September 25th;
A few weeks ago the Rotary Club of Miami made a donation to “Communities in Schools of Miami”. For over 25 years Communities in Schools of Miami has been helping students achieve in school, graduate and go on to bright futures. Their mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Karla Richey, with the Miami Kids Magazine put on the event at Sunset Place;
There will be a social brunch on October 27th at Diane Landsberg’s home starting at noon. Diane says you can wear your Halloween costumes!
Everyone is encouraged to sign up for RLI on September 29th. There is still some room left!
Former Miami Rotarian Preston Prevatt passed away on October 6th. He was President of the YMCA of Greater Miami and the Lighthouse for the Blind. He also held 20 years of perfect attendance for Rotary Club meetings;

Brian Tschirhart is glad to be here, and is looking forward to going to Lebanon to do dental work for Syrian refugees;
Amelia Bonilla was thankful for the tropical storm, as it allowed her to slow down and really enjoy the day;
Scott Richey was happy his wife Karla Richey was treated so warmly when she came to a Rotary meeting without him;
Diane Landsberg was grateful for her friend who has passed away but lived a great life, just two days shy of age 100. Diane also contributed dollars for Robert Bull’s birthday;
Dave Anderson also contributed happy dollars for Robert Bull’s birthday.
Andrew Carter from Miami Waterkeeper was introduced by Linda Singer
Andrew Carter joined Miami Waterkeeper as Research Director in May 2018, and currently works on a number of different research projects. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy and a J.D., both from the University of Miami, and an M.A. in Marine Conservation and Policy from Stony Brook University. He also holds a B.A. in Geography and Anthropology from Hunter College. In addition to his work at Miami Waterkeeper, he teaches Environmental Law and Policy at the University of Miami’s Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy.
Miami Waterkeeper’s mission is to defend, protect, and preserve South Florida’s watershed through citizen engagement and community action rooted in sound science and research. They work to ensure swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for all.
The 50/50 pot started at $256 and ended at $344 today. Rick Hernandez had the first ticket drawn, but was not able to find the Ace of Spades. Rick got $25 for his EREY. The pot begins at $319 next week.
