TBM Pinning at FIU
First, a BIG thank you to President Brian, Phil, Norby, Maria, Noreen, Robin, Cathy, Bob, Art, Angela, Jay, Mara, Linda, David, Alberto, Marissa and Diane who represented our club on Friday night at the FIU TBM Pinning Event! We were pleased that District Governor Michael Kesti also joined us.
For those that missed the opportunity, make sure you make it next year.
Our special guest was FIU President Kenneth Jessell, who made an inspirational presentation as did Dean Juan Carlos Cendan. Both were lavish with praise and gratitude for the Rotary Club of Miami for our generous support of their medical school students. Cathy Cahill and Robin Shelley bestowed each new student with a stethoscope and Diane and Brian placed the proprietary TBM Scholar lapel pin on all.
Phil followed with a brief history of the annual numbers of students and dollar amounts of scholarships they have received, Since its inception, this incredible Trust has collectively awarded a total of $7,807,748 in scholarships with 1708 awards to over 800 students over the years. Total awards of one million dollars to FIU alone will be reached in the near future. A past TBM Scholarship recipient and current TBM Society member and part of the school facility, Dr. Rebecca Toonkel was present to donate a generous check to the Trust!
Phil certainly brought his A game and entertained everyone with his unique humor. It ended with Phil presenting FIU President Jessell, Dean Cendan, and Director of Financial Assistance, Alberto Diaz, with a gift of individual special ties depicting the colors and designs of various infectious diseases! What a kick! President Jessell wrapped up the event stating, ‘it was ‘Late Night with Phil Seipp’.
Following the presentations, we all enjoyed wine and desserts, took the opportunity to visit with staff, students and their parents and take pictures under a beautiful new full moon over Miami. All in all, it was a fabulous event that each RCM member should be proud of!
