Speaker:

Past president Jay Almeida was our speaker for today. He announced that our incoming District Governor, Barbara Gobbi, invited him to serve as the incoming District Communications Chair, which he accepted. Congratulations, Jay!

Jay spoke about how communications can be used to achieve a Rotary Club’s goals, i.e. to increase membership or to communicate better with membership, to provide and coordinate service projects, social activities and youth services, to raise funds for Rotary International Foundation, and such.

He briefly talked about the different types of social media now being used. In order of importance with the most used applications being listed first, there are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Linked In, Twitter, and WhatsApp. WhatsApp has enabled people from all over the world to communicate long distance for free and enables our member, Steve Dutton, to attend our meetings virtually from wherever he is sailing.

He also touched upon the use of websites and printed material.

Thank you, Jay, for your presentation.

Happy $$$

Jay Almeida was happy that his son-in-law, who is married to Stephanie, will be doing his medical residency at Aventura Hospital.
