President Robert Bull welcomed everyone to our meeting. Today’s theme is Canes on Canes. That’s the UM Hurricanes and Hurricanes.
Carlos Bonadies led us with the invocation. Cory Gittner recited the Pledge of Allegiance and reminded us that the flag is a symbol of hope and healing.
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, please keep the victims in your prayers.

Birthdays: Patrick Aliu-Otokiti - September 12th; Jimmy Smiley -September 15th; Randy Jimenez, our Interact counselor at Miami Senior High School - September 16th.
Anniversary: Carlos and Nicole Bonadies are celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary on September 11th.
We continue to ask for your prayers for a speedy recovery, both in body and in Spirit, for Tina Moore and Bjorn Hansen. Both are working hard on returning back to good health.
Noreen Timoney updated us of the latest Community Service Activities.
We are participating with the Milk & Honey program again this year delivering food supplies to homebound elderly citizens and holocaust survivors. This is a non-contact, socially distance Community Service project on September 13th.
We received photos and information on the donation to support a Rotary Club in Guatemala to help feed the needy during their Coronavirus shutdown.
Our backpack and financial donations to the Miami Rescue Mission, we a great success at their Back 2 School Bash!
Socktober is coming up and we will be providing new athletic socks to underserved with the Police Athletic League and the Miami Rescue Mission.
A Waiver of Liability Relating form regarding COVID was emailed to all members and needs to be signed and returned to President Robert. It must be on file in order for members to attend activities, even those where social distancing is observed.

Tyreek Frazier and Kurt Hansen are Canes talking about Canes. Translated that means they are students at the University of Miami (Canes) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and are studying and researching Hurricanes (Canes).
Here’s some interesting takeaways from their presentation:
These strong storms can be called hurricanes, cyclones or typhoons;
No hurricanes form on or near the equator;
The various Categories that define the strength of winds during the storm are only indicating the sustained winds, not the often stronger wind gusts;
The cone of concern indicates that there is a 2/3’s chance that the center of the storm will be somewhere within the cone;
The many hazards from storms are: storm surge, wind, rain, tornadoes and high waves and rip currents.
President Robert Bull will send Tyreek and Kurt’s Certificate of Appreciation for speaking today.

Marcia Brod was happy that she and Lenny completed the reinstallation of a second new and now quiet ceiling fan, after the previous new one ended up being as noisy as the original that was being replaced;
Carlos Bonadies was happy to be celebrating his 21st wedding anniversary;
Randy Lichtman was happy with the MDC Rotaract Club’s New Member Presentation and looks forward to increased members at the first meeting. He also is looking forward to working with fellow Rotarians on a webinar for Interact students;
Robert Bull was happy to greet all members, especially new ones, on the call today;
Phil Seipp reports that the Club is “knocking it out of the park” when it comes to membership and on-line meeting attendance. He also thanked Susan Shelley for a recent donation;
Norys Figuera was happy to learn that a good friend is newly pregnant. The circle of life continues!
Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be next Thursday, September 17th. It will be a Happy Hour to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month @ 5:30PM.
