President Phil Seipp welcomed everyone to the third meeting of the Club’s 101st year!
Marcia Brod gave an invocation and Dave Skinner led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Guests and Visitors were introduced by Rick Miller:
Viviana Jimenez is in her second year of medical school at the University of Miami. She is a grateful recipient of scholarship funds from the Thomas Brown McClelland Trust;
Emily Quintero is attending medical school at the University of Florida and greatly appreciates receipt of TBM scholarship dollars to assist with her education;
Karla Santos is Office Manager at MASF Docs. She was a guest of member Norby Rudel.
Happy $$$$$$$$$ were collected by Juan Torres. President Phil Seipp mentioned that $130 collected in previous weeks were going to be added to the Club’s $5,000 donation to End Polio. Future Happy $$$ will now be used to support other club projects:
Oliver Ruiz was grateful to have been nominated for an Intellectual Property award by the Dade County Bar – he didn’t win, but was happy to have been nominated. The event was at the Rusty Pelican and he was thrilled to be able to be sit back and enjoy the event after having been in the center of planning the Club’s 100th Anniversary Gala at the restaurant earlier this year. He also was happy that his daughter will be celebrating her 12th birthday;
Noreen Timoney was glad to report that Shirley Pardon’s husband Leonard is resting comfortably after a recent car accident. We all wish him well and a speedy recovery;
Robert Bull shared that his daughter auditioned for a role with Telemundo. She was hired and will be portraying a “lady of the night”;
Dave Skinner was glad to be back on his feet and ready to go;
Barbara Gobbi, today’s speaker, was happy to be here. She is involved with the non-profit, Shine on Autism, and was proud to report they now have a radio show and podcast;
Norby Rudel debuted at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Kendall. His three-hour gig will be repeated on a regular schedule with his next appearance at the Coral Gables location on August 2;
Diane Landsberg shared that Maria Rudel and Stephanie Bull will be inducted as club members at the meeting of group of local clubs this evening with the District Governor;
Renel Noel just returned from a trip to Haiti and was thrilled to hear how many lives he has touched. He thanked the club for its assistance in his efforts. He’ll be heading back to Haiti in October to continue his work. Unfortunately, upon his return he had a fall and now is struggling a bit but hopes to be on the mend.

District Governor group club meeting will be this evening at Whiskey Joe’s on Key Biscayne;
Phil reported that we started with 42 members from the date of his incredible installation dinner (in case you didn’t attend). Two members will be inducted tonight;
We mourn the passing member Paul Chehade this past week and extend our sympathy to his family;
Big summer sale and party at Diane Landsberg’s home on Saturday, August 12 at 6:30pm. Pre-sale purchases can be made on Saturday, August 5 from 12-3pm. All purchases will be credited towards member’s EREY account;
Membership dues are now overdue. If you have not paid your dues, please do so immediately;
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will be held on Saturday, October 7. The Club will reimburse any members who attend.

President Phil shared that the goals of the Rotary Foundation are to do good in the world. There are three areas of focus for the Foundation:

Humanitarian Grants and Programs
Educational Programs for Students and Young Professionals

Norby Rudel introduced today’s speaker – Barbara Gobbi
Barbara is the Public Image Chair for District 6990. She is President of her own business marketing consulting agency, BG Marketing Solutions, Inc. With 25 years of sales and marketing experience, her expertise in marketing and social media strategies have helped her clients stand out amongst their competition!
As part of her efforts as District Public Image Chair, she shared ways of increasing Club awareness through social media. She reviewed the Club’s website and facebook pages and shared the positives and had some suggestions for improvement;
There are three distinct groups that make up Rotary and all are essential for a club’s success.
Young professionals starting out wanting to get involved
Those working in the middle of their careers willing to participate and contribute funds
Retirees looking for fellowship and providing leadership
Barbara urged that the club’s social media be forward facing and focus on talking to non-Rotarians;
Another resource is Rotary International’s Brand Center. The site has a lot of information and support tools for a Club’s Public Image Committee;
She was proud to share that she uses our Club prospective membership folder as an example of a good promotional piece when she talks to other clubs.
