President Phil Seipp opened the meeting with a warm welcome to the enthusiastic attendees. Past         President & Past District Governor Robin Shelley provided two appropriate passages on the importance of service marking our spring season.  Angel Rodriguez led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guests and Visitors were introduced by Tina Moore:
  • Suvi Kauranen, a Rotarian from the Costa del Sol area of Spain and member of the Mijas International Club. She exchanged banners with President Phil.
  • Rich Richards, an aviation attorney in Coral Gables making his third meeting as a guest and a serious prospective member.
  • Mariano Perez, from Grandbridge Capital. With family ties to Rotary, he too is looking for a Rotary club to join.
  • Our good friend & Assistant Governor Roberto Ruvicalvo
  • Robert Kupstas, Co-founder and Technologist at Pure Harvest, also a prospective member.
Announcements:
  • President Phil recapped the recent success of this year’s TBM interviews and thanked all who participated, specifically all club members and several doctors who volunteered.
  • There will be a Board Meeting on Thursday, April 12th at 10:30 AM before our regular meeting. All members are welcome to attend & observe.
  • Phil also spoke of the wonderful 3rd annual joint meeting the previous week at Miami High School with our Interact students. Special thanks to Diane Landsberg for coordinating the food and the meeting.  This was a great show of support to our Interactors.
  •  Other mentioned events were the upcoming RLI event on April 21 and the new and exciting District Assembly on April 28 at Margaritaville in Hollywood Beach.

                      •     Robin Shelley was happy his grandson celebrated his 16th birthday.
       •     While on a trip to California, Arlene Terrinoni enjoyed a visiting another Rotary Club meeting                                                                        where she made new friends and had a great time.
•      Randy Lichtman was happy about a recent meeting with Norby Rudel and Diane Landsberg                         with the new Miami Dade College Rotaract Club for college students.
•     Jay Almeida was happy that both of his daughters, Stephanie and Jessica, have won the Miss         Miami beauty pageants.
                     •     Dave Skinner is happy that he and wife Linda Singer are going to Europe for a three-week trip.
                     •     Robert Bull is happily awaiting his European river cruise to Budapest.
                     •     Phil Seipp is happy to be President of such a great club!
New Members !!!!!
As always, Past President Dave Anderson did his usual great job of inducting two more  new members, our 57th and 58th.  The newest members of the Rotary Club of Miami are Diane Stieber, a retired teacher, and Steve Duggan, the owner of an Irish Pub in downtown Manhattan. WELCOME!  Both were sponsored and brought into the club by member Tina Moore.
Our Speaker & Program
Member Marcia Brod introduced the guest speaker, Rebekah Monson, co-founder and CEO of Where By Us.  Her business provides a daily local online newsletter that she started in Miami and is now offered in several major cities across the nation. The newsletters focus on community happenings, neighborhood activities, local politics, transit issues, start-up businesses and national news. The newsletter is marketed to young adults who do not read newspapers or watch television news.  The newsletter is free, but many readers pay for memberships and receive discounts, giveaways and access to special events.  Where By Us also partners with businesses seeking to reach their market base.  Originally started by funding from the Knight Foundation, Where By Us continues to get donations from individuals, media corporations and foundations.  One of their goals is to bring together different groups to connect through common beliefs and to help find solutions to community challenges.
50/50 Drawing:
The Club thought lightning might strike twice when Robert Bull won the chance to draw for the lucky ace of spades. Alas, he chose the four of diamonds, and got $25 toward his EREY for his efforts.  The pot starts at $918 next week, and should reach close to $1000.  We are down to 25 cards!
President Phil thanked all those who served today, thanked all those who attended the high-energy meeting and chose one of our newer members, Gregory Herman-Giddens to lead everyone in the 4 Way Test to close yet another excellent, fun meeting.
