Rote for August 26th Happy Hour Meeting

President Robert Bull welcomed Members and Guests to our August 26th Happy Hour Meeting at 5:30 PM. This Happy Hour date intentionally coincided with the 100th Anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment that gave Women the Right to Vote. Forty people attended this Happy Hour, including Robert Slatoff from the District, Allison Chin & Rosario Krossler (Rotaract Presidents at FIU and MDC, respectively), and Shaun Deely, Steven Fein and Stephanie Seemann (all potential new Members).

All women Rotarians (and the two Rotaract Presidents) who attended this meeting received a woman’s Rotarian lapel pin virtually during the meeting, and after the meeting, ALL women Rotarians of Club were mailed a woman’s Rotarian lapel pin. Additionally, all women Rotarians of our Club and the non-Rotarian spouses of male Rotarians were mailed a specially designed facemask that we purchased from Victoria Secrets. One of the conditions to purchasing these masks that we needed to be an organization that empowers women. We do!

Dave Anderson inducted four new members. All of these four new Members are women: Dunia Miranda, Norys Figuera, Ada Dana and Karen Lapekas. We are so happy that they have joined our Club, as they are as well.

After the induction, we had a game, “Name that Tune”. Our new Member, Dunia Miranda won First Place (who won a full sheet of Women’s Vote postage stamps). Norby Rudel came in second place (half a sheet of Women’s Vote postage stamps). Third place was a tie, between Shirley Pardon and Stephanie Seemann, a future new Members (both will receive six Women’s Vote postage stamps).

Following the “Name the Tune” game, we drew the winning ticket of the Raffle of the Rotary themed Silk scarf. Allison Chin, President of the FIU Rotaract Club was the winner.

We ended our Happy Hour with Happy Dollars. All Happy Dollars for this meeting and our prior meeting will be used to provide needed supplies to the Lotus House, a safe place for homeless women. Angela Deggs, Dunia Miranda and Shirley Pardon expressed their happiness to close our meeting.
