The Rote June 18th
by Diane Landsberg
President Norby started the meeting at 12:30. Many of us logged in early to take advantage of the camaraderie and the chance to catch-up with each other. We had a total of 42 members and guests.
Angela Deggs gave a beautiful invocation and again, Noreen led us in very meaningful Pledge of Allegiance.

Tidbits:
At the bequest of Arlene Terrinoni and for the benefit of our visitors, guests and soon to be new members, we learned that Thomas Brown McClelland (TBM) was a professional horticulturalist who worked for the USDA.
- He joined the Rotary Club of Miami in 1939 and was an active member until his death in 1980. In his will, Mr. McClelland endowed a scholarship fund for medical school students.
- The initial bequest was $2.5 million. Through careful management by the trustees, the principal has grown to nearly $5
million.
- Using the income from the fund, the Rotary Club of Miami has awarded over 1,000 scholarships totaling more than $7 million to medical school students that graduated from a Miami-Dade County high school.
Marcia Brod created a newsletter that is regularly mailed to all past TBM recipients, featuring selected doctors and providing updates on recent recipients. She was excited to announce that the most recent newsletter yielded checks for $1,000 and an incredible $20,000 (yes, $20K!). This brought the grand total to $87,483 from past recipients donating back to the fund and paying it forward! Hats off to Marcia!!!
Past President Phil Seipp inducted four new members, bringing our new member for 2019-20 total to 11 with Natacha Metayer, our 12th new member to be inducted on June 30th. Our four newest members are:
