Midday Meeting Via ZOOM
President Robert Bull welcomed everyone to our Midday ZOOM November 19th meeting at 12:30 pm. He said that we are going to have a very interesting meeting, as our guest speaker will talk to us about a unique program, “Libraries without Borders”.
Diane Stieber, all the way from Pennsylvania, gave the invocation.
Norby Rudel recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Today is National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day. Carbonating water, giving water a fizz, was discovered in 1767, when Englishman Joseph Priestly suspended a bowl of distilled water above a beer vat at a local brewery in Leeds, England. His experiment led to the discovery of a method of infusing water with carbon dioxide to make carbonated water. President Robert Bull then opened up a can of his favorite carbonated beverage, Coca Cola.
Today is also World Toilet Day as decreed by the United Nations. It turns out that billions of us on the planet do not have access to sanitary facilities and thousands of children die every year from diarrhea from drinking contaminated water.
The Rotary Club has an action group to address the issue of Water Sanitation and Hygiene. Its called the WASH Rotary Action Group. Robin Shelley told us a bit about this organization. To find out more about WASH or to join this Rotary Action Group, please visit: https://www.wasrag.org/

Birthdays: Noreen Timoney will be celebrating her birthday on November 23rd, Jonathan Welsh on the 27th and Renel Noel on the 28th. Happy Birthday to all of you.
Phil Seipp updated us on the GBI Rx project. We are raising funds and have received donations from several Members, and just received a donation from the Stuttgart Rotary Club in Germany, where Michael Hilsbos, our former Member, now lives.
Talking about international comments. We sent our best wishes to the Kfar-Saba Rotary Club in Israel on their 60th anniversary. Mazel Tov!
Norby Rudel gave us a brief report on the successful virtual conference, Leading Change in a COVID World, that was held this past Saturday, November 14th. Norby thanked all of the volunteers and participants who are helped make this project a reality.
David Anderson told us about an Investment Club that he is starting up. You do not have to be rich to join an investment club. The key benefit is that you will be able to share experiences and learning with your fellow investors. This Investment Club while not associated with the Rotary Club of Miami will follow the tenants of the Four-Way Test.
November is also – The Rotary Foundation Month. Rotary’s goal amongst the Membership is for Every Rotarian (to contribute) Every Year, EREY.
Every year our District conducts a golf ball drop program. Each golf ball costs $25 and on the day of the Golf Ball drop at the Biltmore Golf Course a helicopter will fly over and drop all of the purchased golf balls. The ones nearest the pin win. You may get your golf balls from Robbin Shelley. You may also let us know later in the meeting during Happy Dollars.
Noreen Timoney gave us an update on our Club’s participation with the recent Walk to END Alzheimer’s. While this year’s WALK was different, we had a great turnout.

Last week, the Community Services Committee had a successful ZOOM meeting. Noreen gave us the highlights.
This Saturday is the Heart Walk. Just like the Walk to END Alzheimer’s, this year the WALK will be different. You may join the Rotary Club of Miami team by visiting our team page in today’s Rote.
Noreen then introduced our speaker, Ms. Katherine Karmen Trujillo. Ms. Trujillo told us about the Libraries without Borders programs. Their goal is to deliver access to information, education, and cultural resources where it’s needed most. 
President Robert Bull then virtually presented Ms. Trujillo her Certificate of Appreciation and let her know that we will also be delivering dictionaries to third graders.
He then reminded us of the Lucky Draw on December 3rd for a bottle of ZACAPA RUM. ZACAPA is one of the best rums in the World and it is from Guatemala. We want to thank Dunia Miranda for this donation. All funds raised for this Lucky Draw will be donated to the Rotary Emergency Committee in Guatemala to help those impacted by Hurricane ETA.
Happy Dollars – All of the Happy Dollars donations this month will be dedicated toward our Christmas Toy Drive. We will be supporting the Miami Rescue Mission in their goals to have 6,000 new toys to distribution to needy children. Every child should have the joy of receiving a new toy during Christmas. We will also be supporting their Christmas meals program.

After Happy Dollars, Robert Bull, spun the Picker Spin Wheel to see who will win a trial run. The winner of this trial run received two small sample bottles of vodka with a recipe glass. We selling be selling virtual tickets. Your name will be placed in a Picker Pin Wheel, the more tickets you buy to more space on the wheel will have your name. The algorithm of the Picker Spin Wheel will select the winner on December 3rd. All it takes is one ticket to win. Remember that Cameron Sisser won the lucky card draw at the Miami Yacht Club when he bought just one ticket.
