The Miami Yacht Club
President Oliver Ruiz welcomed everyone to the meeting. Jay Almeida gave the invocation and John Carroll led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The following were guests of Patrick Aliu:
- Mercedes Young, who is an owner of a civil engineering firm in Tampa;
- Ed Oppel, a frequent guest who works with Patrick Aliu;
- Virgilie Aliu, Patrick’s daughter, who owns her own company, co-owns Miami Grill on South Beach, and is a figure skater;
- Mario Parra, a civil engineer;
- Louis Machuca, Director of Development for PSA and a prospective member of the Rotary Club of Miami.
We were also joined by the following guests:
Petula Sankarsingh, Shirley Pardon’s guest, who works for the March of Dimes and is planning to open a wine café in August at 885 NE 125 St., North Miami; and
Sandra Hemstead, Rotary District Governor Nominee from District 6960, who lives in Bonita Springs.
Happy $$$$$$$$$$ were collected by Juan Torres:
- Diane Landsberg had a fabulous time on the Fathom Rotary cruise this past week.
- Robin Shelley also was gleeful about the Fathom cruise.
- Cory Gittner took his 18 year old daughter on the cruise. They both loved it. His daughter told him that she never had so much fun in her life. (And this was a service cruise!)
- Jay Almeida was happy for all the people who went on the cruise.
- Robert Bull was glad for the cultural exchange on the cruise.
- Arlene Terrinoni was happy to have gone on the Fathom cruise and announced the Miami Billfish Fishing Tournament to raise funds for marine biology. Her children and she have been involved in this cause for 20 years.
- Dave Anderson spoke about the District Training Assembly last month.
- Linda Singer was excited that she and husband Dave Skinner have tickets to attend a Paul McCartney concert in July.

- May 18 - Joint Lunch Meeting with Miami High Interact Club at Miami Senior High School
- May 18 (evening) - UM Baseball Event at Mark Light Field - Robin Shelley will be pitching the first ball!
- May 20 – Board of Directors Meeting at Diane’s house

Today’s Speaker was introduced by President Oliver Ruiz:
- Stephanie Almeida, Jay and Mara Almeida’s daughter, spoke to the Club today. She is the current Miss Miami, as part of the Miss America Organization. Last year she was Miss FIU. Ms. Almeida received her degree in marketing from FIU, is a dancer and a charitable fundraiser. One of her favorite charities is Feed Miami, where she served for 3 hours per week for a year.
- The Miss America Organization is a non-profit scholarship organization with a focus on the intellectual worth of women. It is the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in the United States.
- Ms. Almeida aspires to win the Miss Florida pageant. Ms. Almeida explained the intricacies of the pageant process, including the interview with the judges, the lifestyle and fitness portion, modeling the gown and onstage question and answer portion.
- President Oliver presented our speaker with a Certificate of Appreciation for her presentation today.
50-50: Oliver had the raffle ticket number but did not draw the winning card. The 50/50 will be rolled over to next week and will start at $1,400.00!
