President Brian Tschirhart welcomed everyone to our Zoom meeting. He was coming live from the Rusty Pelican Restaurant where plans are being finalized for our anniversary event.
Noreen Timoney gave an invocation and mentioned that today is World Rotary Day – in honor of the 118th anniversary of the first Rotary meeting held on February 23, 1905. We are all grateful for that!
Cathy Cahill led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Activities from the Past Few Weeks – We’ve been very busy and productive:
January 27 – Norby Rudel performed to a good crowd of guests and Rotarians at the Miami Yacht Club.
January 28 - There was a tree planting at Coral Estates Park.
January 29 – Norby Rudel’s last performance at Vino’s in the Grove.
February 3 – There was an outstanding reception and pinning ceremony at Florida International University where TBM scholarship recipients celebrated their success, scholarships and the receipt of their TBM pins.
February 12 – Over 100 folks came out for a wonderful day of pollinator planting and bbq at Pelican Harbor.
February 16 – It was a beautiful night to gather with Rotarians and friends at the outdoor patio area of Bay 13 in Coral Gables. The post-Valentine theme party was a great success.
Jay Almeida and Alberto Diaz are both celebrating (?!?) getting a year older on February 25!!!!
Thursday, March 2 – In-person meeting at the Miami Yacht Club.
Saturdays March 4th, 11th and 18th are the days we will be interviewing medical students for our Thomas Brown McClelland Scholarships. If you haven’t signed up to participate – do so right now! It is a wonderful experience for everyone involved – no prior experience necessary!!! Don’t miss out!
Thursday, March 16th the Club will be celebrating its 106th Anniversary with a special luncheon at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant on Key Biscayne from 12-2pm. Be sure to sign up – seating is limited. Our guest speaker will be Luis Aguirre, an award winning journalist and environmental advocate.
TODAY’S PROGRAM
Phil Seipp, man of many hats – Club and Foundation Treasurer, Past President, TBM Trustee and Interview Coordinator, spoke about our TBM program and the upcoming interview sessions to be held starting at 8:15 on Saturdays March 4, 11 and 18 at the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office.
We will be meeting for orientation in the recently designated “Norman Kassoff Lounge Room”. It is a significant program in our Club’s history and Phil works extremely hard to have everything running smoothly.
There are 71 applicants this year and most of them will be interviewing. We have two former recipients, also ready to join an interview team. Phil encouraged everyone to take part. It is guaranteed to give people a hopeful lookout for the future of medicine and our world.

HAPPY $$$$$$$ will be contributed to TBM Today
Marcia Brod was happy about TBM and also that her home fish pond will soon be restocked;
Diane Stieber was thrilled that a new granddaughter arrived in her family on 2/1;
Cathy Cahill shared that TBM interviews is her favorite Rotary programs and she has 3 publications by the Trust’s founder, Thomas Brown McClelland, to share;
Diane Landsberg praised Phil for his hard work getting everything ready for the interviews. He is quite a good juggler of his time and responsibilities;
Robin and Susan Shelley shared that fellow Rotarian Virginia Jacko, CEO of the Lighthouse for the Blind, had a letter to the editor published in the Wall Street Journal;
Scott Richey is looking forward to TBM interviews;
Phil Seipp is happy everything is falling into place for the interview process;
Brian Tschirhart gave $15 for his 15 grandchildren – his house is quite busy these days!
Gloria Romero Roses is looking forward to the interviews and also shared the good work of Transit Alliance Miami – a great organization for those who enjoy biking;
Noreen Timoney gave happy $$$ for TBM;
Miryan Cortina will be there for the interviews;
Randy Lichtman shared that he will be playing with the Miami Symphonic Band at Pinecrest Gardens on Sunday, February 26 at 4pm.
Randy Lichtman led everyone in the 4-Way Test to conclude the meeting.
