President Dave Skinner welcomed everyone to our first luncheon meeting of the new Rotary year and his first meeting as president. He reminded those in attendance that The Rotary Club of Miami is now starting its 102nd year of making a difference in Miami.
Cory Gittner gave an invocation and John Carroll led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.

George Max Arias is a VP-Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch. He works a lot with Brazilians – helping them invest in the U.S;
Hanadi Al-Ansari is with H Consultancy and is a Rotarian from the Salmaniya/Bahrain/District 2452. She is an investment consultant;
Staci Marbin is a recipient of a scholarship from the Club’s Thomas Brown McClelland Trust and came to thank the club for the award. She is attending the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine;
Camille Dirks is an advisor with Coastal Wealth and is a potential member;
Jennifer Galeano, a guest of member Bunny Uriarte, is a Marketing Intern for Infinity Insurance;
Frank Ferris, a guest of Arleen Terrinoni, is visiting before he returns to Pennsylvania;
Frank Devlyn is the Past President of Rotary International 2000-01 and a close friend of the Shelleys. He is currently promoting mentorship programs for youth. He also has a series of “Frank Talks” books about Rotary that have sold over 300,000 copies.

The TBM Trust investment account has been transferred to Northern Trust. We look forward to a long and successful relationship. The latest newsletter has already resulted in $1,500 contributed back to the Trust and towards the $15,000 match commitment made by the Club’s Foundation;
A board meeting will be held at 10:30a.m. on Thursday, July 19.

Robert Bull was thrilled over the miraculous rescue in Thailand of the soccer team and its coach. His son works for the BBC and was there on scene to report;
Marcia Brod was happy that her eldest daughter will be starting a new job in a few weeks;
Renel Noel was excited to have met with Frank Devlyn. He was impressed by his knowledge and sense of humor;
Linda Singer was also excited about the rescue in Thailand, hubby Dave’s first meeting as president and also the video she saw of Bunny Uriarte when she was in Tucson;
Randy Lichtman thanked Robert Bull for speaking about entrepreneurship to his class. He also welcomed the students and family from the Miami High Interact Club. Randy will soon be heading to DC to visit one of his sons to see his new apartment;
Robin Shelley is happy for 1) his new glasses; 2) going on a sister-tour to visit his sisters in Alaska and Colorado; and 3) to have Frank Devlyn at the meeting;
Diane Landsberg was glad to have the Interact students at the meeting;
Bunny Uriarte congratulated Dave Skinner on his first meeting, was proud of the Miami Interact Club (which is the future of Rotary), has enrolled in an FIU Master’s program and thanked Randy Lichtman for the letter of recommendation, and finally, glad to have Jennifer Galeano at the meeting;
Karla Richey was glad to be here for Dave’s first meeting and also is thrilled to have Lucia Galeano working for her magazine as a summer intern;
Phil Seipp is enjoying sitting on the sidelines and not presiding as president. He shared that one of Frank Devlyn’s books – Frank Talk 1 – inspired him to be more involved in Rotary;

Program
Today we celebrate the winners of the 4-Way Test essay contest at Miami High School. The scholarships are awarded based on essays submitted by the students about how they apply the 4-Way Test to their daily lives. The 4-Way Test is a Rotary principle that asks us to consider and act on the following in the things we think, say and do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The essays read were both well thought out and impactful. We appreciate the efforts of all who submitted essays. The winners were:
1st Place – Lucia Galeano – she will be attending Miami-Dade College
2nd Place – Carlos Castillo – he will be heading off to the University of Florida
3rd Place – Jessica Murillo
Randy Jimenez was introduced as the new MHS Advisor to the Interact Club. He is extremely enthusiastic about the future and wants to help his students become good global citizens.
Next week’s speaker is from 500 Startups, a venture capital firm supporting new companies in Miami.
