Steve Dutton introduced Today’s Speaker

Johann Zietsman has been serving as the CEO and President of the Adrienne Arsht Center (Arsht) since 2018. The Arsht opened in 2006 and has two boards: the trust which governs it and the foundation which fundraises for it.
During COVID their revenue dropped nearly $16 million. The Arsht has its own medical doctor and the CDC, both of which have helped the Arsht in creating a safe environment and safe protocols during the pandemic. The protocols have been put to the test and due to adherence to them, no one has reported to the Arsht catching COVID after visiting the Arsht. The Arsht additionally wanted to ensure that performing artists were supported during the pandemic. It helped 840 local artists and 300 non-local artists. It used 100 teaching artists to teach students in Miami-Dade. 66 new works were performed. During COVID, the Arsht also had many popup performances throughout our county.
This year the Arsht is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, which it names the Quinceanera. People celebrating their personal Quinceaneras can come to the Arsht to take pictures in their beautiful gowns. $15 Quinceanera priced tickets are also available for select performances.
School children in Miami-Dade come to see a production at the Arsht each year. A new grade 9 program will be offered to help mental wellness in this challenging time by a new production brought to various schools in the County. The Arsht works with Miami-Dade students and the community as a whole in bringing culture in all of its forms to the people.
Steve Dutton appreciated today’s meeting and our speaker; Robin Shelley reported that the Rotary International board just decided that the Rotary International Convention will be held in person from June 4 to June 8 in Houston, Texas. If you have trouble registering for the event, contact him for help; President Noreen Timoney contributed happy dollars for today’s speaker and the wonderful community service work provided through the Arsht Programming initiatives; Linda Singer was happy that our ailing club president is on the mend and appreciated the value that the Arsht Center provides to the community. She shared that when the Arsht was being built, the Rotary Club of Miami bought a brick on one of the walkways surrounding the center; Arlene Terrinoni shared that she has been a volunteer usher at the Arsht Center for 14 years and loves the Arsht. She was happy for today’s speaker.
