Local projects provide excellent opportunities for our members to volunteer, fundraise, enjoy camaraderie, and directly benefit our community:

On an ongoing basis, we have supported the following organizations:

Miami Rescue Mission

We have provided food for the homeless, volunteered in the food serving areas, participated with their Christmas in July events and provided toy to needy children in Christmas.  Our support has been financial, through direct volunteer efforts at their main Miami campus, providing in-kind food, socks, sporting goods, toy donations, and financial aid.

FEED MIAMI

Feed Miami | Christ Journey

FEED MIAMI is managed through the Christ Journey Church and supports food banks for the food insecure amongst our community.  We have conducted several food drives.

Beach Cleanups and Tree Planting

The Rotary Club of Miami participated with the International Coastal Cleanup Day working in both Matheson Hammock and Miami Beach.  Additionally, we have planted trees at ZOO MIAMI supporting Million Tree Miami programs of the County.

Interact Clubs

Interact Interaction | Rotary Club of Duncanville

Interact is the Rotary organization for high school students.  The Interact Club members perform community service projects.  The Rotary Club of Miami founded and has sponsored the Interact Club at Miami Senior High School for over six decades.  Our involvement includes financial support, mentoring, assisting the Interact Club with projects and events, and including the members in our club’s projects.

For graduating high school seniors, the Rotary Club of Miami offers the DeLury Scholarship Award program with scholarship up to $2,500.  The Award is based on the result of an essay competition.  The essay must address the “Rotary 4-Way Test” The scholarship is awarded based on essays submitted by the students about how they apply the 4-Way Test to their daily lives.  The 4-Way Test is a Rotary principle that asks us to consider and act on the following in the things we think, say and do: Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Rotaract is the Rotary organization for college students and young professionals.  The Rotaract members organize and participate in community service projects and events.  The Rotary Club of Miami sponsors the Rotaract Club at Florida International University and the Rotaract Club at Miami-Dade College Wolfson campus.  Our involvement includes financial support, mentoring, assisting the Interact Clubs with projects and events, and including the members in our club’s projects.  We are in the initial stages of sponsoring another Rotaract Club at the University of Miami.

Our Past Projects include those listed below:

Chapman Partnership for the Homeless

The Rotary Club of Miami helps Chapman by providing volunteers to prepare and serve meals to the residents of the shelter.  In addition to hands on volunteerism, the club contributes enough money each time to feed 400 people staying at the homeless shelter.

Rotary “Re-Start”

The Rotary Club of Miami also helps the residents of Chapman by collecting and packing new household goods for people transitioning out of homelessness.  As families get back on track and move out of the shelter, they lack basic items like dishes, silverware, linens, and small appliances.

University of Miami Bone and Tissue Bank

Recently, our club raised $10,000 and The Batchelor Foundation of Miami made a very generous donation of $88,000 to complete the fundraising to purchase a digital x-ray machine for the UMBTB. This new machine will enhance the ability to provide bone and tissue grafts with particular relevance in helping younger people avoid amputations due to diseases like bone cancer. Our involvement continues to be to raise additional funds and awareness with the general public of the importance of organ, bone and tissue donation.

Armed Forces Service Center at Miami International Airport

Our club raised money to help refurbish and improve the lounge used by members of our Armed Forces as they travel to, from or through Miami.  We continue to support the lounge with periodic donations to help pay for supplies.  The lounge provides a quiet, comfortable seating area away from the noise and congestion of the airport terminal for members of the military and their dependents.  The Military Hospitality Lounge offers an array of services including snacks, beverages, computers, internet access, phones, books, magazines, TV's/DVD's/VCR's, and even emergency overnight accommodations.

Magazines for VA Hospital, Military Lounge at MIA, Ryder Trauma Unit.

After you have read them, bring your magazines to our weekly meetings.  We distribute them throughout the waiting rooms at the VA Hospital, the Ryder Trauma Unit and the Military Lounge at Miami International Airport.  So far, we have collected and distributed over 2,500 magazines and the feedback has been resoundingly positive.
